Don’t Judge the Story From the Middle
We hear the phrase "trust the process" so often that sometimes it almost loses its meaning. It's easy to tell someone to trust the process when everything is going well. It's much harder to believe in those words when you're sitting in the middle of a situation you never asked for, watching things fall apart and wondering how any of it could possibly work out.
There are moments in life when we question everything. We regret decisions. We curse our circumstances. We ask God why. We wonder why things aren't happening for us the way they seem to be happening for everyone else. We look at where we are and compare it to where we thought we'd be, and suddenly it feels like we've fallen behind.
But maybe we spend too much time trying to understand the chapter while we're still living it.
Sometimes you have to let the tape roll.
Let the disappointment happen. Let the rejection hurt. Let the plans change. Let yourself grieve the things you thought would work out differently. Not everything that happens will make sense immediately, and not every painful experience will come with an explanation. But that doesn't mean the story ends there.
There are things I once thought were the worst things that could happen to me that I can now look back on differently. Not because they weren't painful, but because they changed me. They taught me things comfort never could. They forced me to grow, to rethink what I wanted, to become stronger, and sometimes to take a completely different path.
That's the strange thing about life. Sometimes the door we desperately wanted to open isn't the door we're supposed to walk through.
And when it stays closed, we think we've lost something.
Years later, we might realize it was protecting us from something we couldn't see at the time.
This doesn't mean we should romanticize pain or pretend that everything happens for a beautiful reason. Some things genuinely hurt. Some seasons are unfair. Some losses leave scars. But even when we cannot control what happened to us, we still have some control over what we become because of it.
That's where the process comes in.
Keep going. Keep pushing. Keep learning. Keep becoming. Even when you're moving slowly. Even when you don't have the full picture. Even when all you can see is the next step.
Because life isn't a race that is won at the beginning.
Sometimes the person who looks behind everyone else at the start is the one who finishes strongest.
We are often so focused on how far we still have to go that we forget to acknowledge how far we've already come. The version of you who survived yesterday deserves some credit, especially on the days when tomorrow doesn't look promising.
So if you're in a difficult season right now, don't be too quick to decide that your story is going badly. You may simply be standing in a chapter that hasn't revealed its purpose yet.
Keep the tape rolling.
You don't have to understand everything today.
You just have to keep moving.
Because sometimes the painful yesterday becomes the very thing that gives you the strength to handle the better tomorrow you've been waiting for.
Trust the process not because everything will always go according to plan, but because the story isn't over yet.
